Sat, Sep 4, 2021 at 12pm

This event has passed.

For Antigonight 2021, a collaborative work honoring the residential school children by artist, activist, and StFX faculty member, Michelle Sylliboy, will headline the festival. This project has two components.

*This registration is for the first component - the workshop.

Part 1. Michelle Sylliboy Workshop

Sept 4, 12pm – 3pm, The People’s Place Library

Michelle Sylliboy will guide participants in using the hieroglyphic dictionary of the komqwejwi’kasikl language to make lightboxes featuring a hieroglyph of their choice. This activity will allow the participants to engage both intellectually and creatively with the written komqwejwi’kasikl language. Participants are invited to join Sylliboy and her collaborators that evening at Immaculata Hall to take part in a performance using their lightboxes.

Part 2. Komqwejwi’kasikl Memories Unravelling

Sept 4, 8pm & 9pm (2 performances), Immaculata Hall

*All are welcome – no registration required.

This multimedia performance by Michelle Sylliboy includes poems honoring the residential school children, live, improvised music by renowned musicians Bianca Palmer, Nick Dourado, and Kelvin Mansaray, and large-scale projections of komqwejwi’kasikl hieroglyphs throughout the space. Those who attended the workshop earlier in the day are invited to use their hieroglyphic projectors to add to the visual display. Audience members will be invited by Sylliboy to write a komqwejwi’kasikl hieroglyph in light.
